Al-Noamani congratulates the Minister of Higher Education receiving the UNESCO Award as the best Experience in Eradicating Illiteracy, and Praises the Efforts of Sohag University Students in Eradicating the Illiteracy of 80,000 Students.

Dr. Hassan Al-Noamani, President of Sohag University, congratulated Dr. Ayman Ashour, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, for Egyptian universities receiving the UNESCO award as the best experience in eradicating illiteracy, and for their success in eradicating the illiteracy of nearly a million citizens, during the celebration of Arab Literacy Eradication Day.

Al-Noamani stressed that the university has developed an integrated implementation plan and has intensified its efforts to eradicate the illiteracy of the largest number of illiterate people, especially in the villages and centers most in need, as part of the Decent Life Initiative, and in implementation of the state’s directives and its strategic plan to declare Egypt free of illiteracy by the year 2030, adding that the university’s total contribution to eradicating Illiteracy has reached approximately 80,000 citizens, according to the Supreme Council of Universities and the General Authority for Adult Education.

Al-Nomani pointed out that the illiteracy issue comes at the top of the priorities of university work, as the university administration has succeeded in exploiting its material and human capabilities, and benefiting from the capabilities of its students, to support the state’s plans and participate in this national project to eradicate the illiteracy of citizens in the villages of the Egyptian countryside, in cooperation with the General Authority of Education for adults, and as a result of the intensive efforts made by the university in this file, the university was able to obtain advanced positions at the level of Egyptian universities.

He added that the university has put in place a number of material and moral incentives for students, which put them in a competition in eradicating illiteracy, as students are distributed among the villages, and a minimum is set for each student to eradicate illiteracy of 4 people.

If the student eradicates illiteracy of 7 citizens, he will be exempted from half the housing fees in the university dormitories, if a female student erases the illiteracy of 10 citizens, she will be exempted from public service, and this is in cooperation with the Ministry of Solidarity
